Week 3

For week 3, Juliani shares his thinking in chapters 7 and 8 about Choice and Flexibility. Adults always appreciate both features in their own learning, and the author challenges us to think about ways to bring both choice and flexibility into our classrooms.

In chapter seven, Juliani talks about the ways in which student choice impacts the learning. How are you or teachers in your school offering more choice to students, and what has been the result? Try to tie this example to any of the five specific ways student choice impacts the learning that are listed on pages 69-70.

In chapter eight, Juliani argues that engagement is the key, and providing flexibility in how our students learn is important. One example he offers is the Pick Your Station activity. As you think about your classroom, identify a unit, concept, or skill that might lend itself to this type of choice. Describe several different station activities you could offer.
